Acoustic Solutions for light weight floor structures

Isosonic Screed Plank (ISP) High Mass Flooring Panels

The simplest way to reduce sound transfer through a lightweight floor is to increase its mass. Traditionally this was done with multiple layers of plasterboard or a screed floor finish, however both of these solutions increase construction depth and the latter needs to be left to dry before works can continue.

Thermal Economics recently released the  Isosonic Screed Plank (ISP) range of high mass panels to provide an alternative that does not suffer from the drawbacks of these traditional solutions.

Advantages include:

  • Thin Solution – ISP panels range from 18mm – 25mm.
  • High Mass – ISP panels have a density of 1100 – 1500Kg/m3, double that of a standard plasterboard.
  • Dry installation, saving on construction time and screed pumping.
  • Simple installation, ISP panels have standard T&G edges.
  • Provides a hard and robust screed like finish.
  • Ideal for use with Under Floor Heat, distributing heat quickly and evenly.
  • Structural variants (ISPS) available which can be fitted directly to joists.

Achieving Building Regulation Compliance

ISP panels can be used in combination with Isorubber acoustic resilient layers and an Isosonic Ceiling to provide Part E compliant solutions for new build and refurbishment projects.

Isorubber resilient layers are dense and robust rubber mat  s that provide excellent impact sound reduction. A range of tried and tested Isorubber products are available allowing solutions to be tailored to the project requirements, whether you are looking for the thinnest solution possible or a high-performance solution that will exceed regulation requirements.

One of our Isosonic Ceilings should be used to prevent direct sound transfer, helping to reduce both impact and airborne sound. These utilise the Isosonic range of acoustic hangers, brackets or cleats to decouple the ceiling from the floor structure, with solutions available for most ceiling types.

Isoedge perimeter strip is also required to prevent flanking sound transmission.

Under Floor Heating Application

ISP panels have a very dense gypsum composition, this means that they work extremely well with under floor heating systems. The heat is distributed quickly and evenly helping to maximise the efficiency of the heating system.

Isorubber HP3 is a firm favourite of under floor heating installers, as it lays flat when unrolled and is dense enough to remain in position in adverse conditions, this makes fitting quick and easy.

Structural Floor Applications

The ISP range includes two variants that can be used as a structural deck, as a high mass alternative to chipboard or ply. These are referred to as ISPS to denote the structural potential of the panel.

ISPS 18 panels are only 18mm thick and are suitable for spanning joists at centres up to 400mm.

ISPS 25 panels are 25mm thick and are suitable for spanning joists at centres up to 600mm.
