Coastal Retreats: New Online Tool Determines Home Buyers Most Suited Seaside Location Based On Their Preferences

A new tool created by an interiors specialist calculates the best coastal resorts that home buyers should consider for relocation depending on what’s important to them. Factors such as the number of outstanding schools in the area, commuting times, quality of beaches and the number of bars and restaurants have been researched in order to give potential homebuyers in Britain an idea of their most suited beachside spot. Using this research it has been found that overall, the best coastal area to move too is Blackpool, followed by Great Yarmouth and Poole.

A new interactive tool for house-hunting Britons has been created to make coastal locations easier to decide between after it was found that over half of Britons wished they live closer to the coast. According to results, St Andrews in Scotland has the highest scoring beaches, Brighton is the best place to live if restaurants are a priority and Tynemouth is the ideal choice for those with little ones looking for great schools.

Using the tool and taking into account every factor, from house price to best beach rating, it was found that the top 10 coastal areas with the best overall score are as follows:

  1. Blackpool
  2. Great Yarmouth
  3. Poole
  4. Brighton
  5. Whitby
  6. Newquay
  7. Looe
  8. Bournemouth
  9. Torquay
  10. Skegness

Interiors specialist Hillarys (www.Hillarys.co.uk) is behind the Find Your Dream Seaside Location tool. Visitors to the site https://www.hillarys.co.uk/static/find-your-dream-seaside-location/ can change the importance of different factors including house price, outstanding schools, commuting times and beach preferences to find the perfect coastal location for them.

The tool was created after a poll of 2,127 UK homeowners conducted by the Hillarys team found that over half of Britons, 53%, wish they lived closer to a beach.

The study was conducted in order to uncover more about Britons’ attitudes towards where they currently live. They were initially asked if they believed their current home was in the ‘perfect’ location and a staggering 83% said they did not. In order to find out more, participants were asked what it was about the location of their home that they would change if they could, with the following answers emerging as the most popular:

  1. I wish my home was closer to the beach –53%
  2. I wish I lived somewhere safer/with less crime– 41%
  3. I wish there was more to do near my house – 38%
  4. I wish I lived in/nearer a city – 33%
  5. I wish I lived nearer my friends – 27%

Following on from this, all participants were asked “Do you think you rushed into buying your property, without adequately researching the area?” to which 46% stated they did feel this way.

Finally, respondents were asked if the location of their home was making them unhappy to which almost a quarter stated that it was.

Tara Hall, spokesperson for www.hillarys.co.uk, said:

“We wanted to provide an easy tool for those who love the beach to see where in the UK would be the best for them to move to, depending on their preferences and needs. It’s shocking to hear that as many as  23% are unhappy solely because of the location of their home.”
