Rt Hon Sir Oliver Heald QC MP has praised the ‘vital role’ that Aggregate Industries’ Hertford Express Asphalt Plant has played in helping to improve and maintain the local road network.
Sir Oliver, who has been MP for North East Hertfordshire since 1997, visited the site in Bayfordbury on Friday to meet the asphalt production team and learn more about the company’s pioneering Express Asphalt service.
Designed to make the process of asphalt supply much simpler and quicker, the offering includes a ‘click and collect’ service with a guaranteed turnaround of 30 minutes for single loads of standard products, which enables busy customers to order asphalt, or tools and equipment, and pick it up from any one of the business’ 41 Express Asphalt depots nationwide.
As part of the visit, Sir Oliver was given an exclusive tour of the Hertford site, which in coming weeks is set to expand its product offering to include SuperColour®, a range of distinctly coloured asphalts increasingly used by local authorities for bus lanes, cycle lanes, sports landscaping and parks and natural areas.
The highly-successful visit also involved an engaging discussion between Sir Oliver and key Aggregate Industries’ staff such as Gary Walsh, Express Asphalt South East Area Manager, on important issues including Hertfordshire’s waste plan and the leading building materials supplier’s recent work on the region’s road infrastructure.
Gary Walsh, Express Asphalt South East Area Manager, said: “Today’s visit was a fantastic opportunity for us to show Sir Oliver first-hand how our innovative Express Asphalt offering is leading the way in providing high-quality and efficient asphalt supply essential to improving and maintaining our local roads. We hope it also demonstrates the importance of having a comprehensive policy for managing the supply of asphalt both locally and nationally.”
Sir Oliver added: “Having a robust, first-class local road network is essential to the local community and surrounding businesses alike, especially when it comes to boosting economic activity and tackling congestion. As such, I’d like to say thank you to Aggregate Industries for inviting me to visit their Hertford Express Asphalt site, which clearly plays a vital role in helping to deliver the government’s ambitious targets to improve and maintain our local roads1. This is where contractors and the Council can obtain the asphalt they need to mend and improve our roads.”
