THE countdown’s under way for a long-awaited development at a site that’s plagued a Middlesbrough community.
Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston has pushed for work to start on a high quality replacement for the former Tollesby shops complex.
And in just under a fortnight a 56-week build programme by Middlesbrough Development Company (MDC) finally gets under way.
The exciting new scheme features 24 one- and two-bedroom apartments and five retail units, with work on site programmed to start on Monday, July 12.
The derelict Rievaulx Drive shops complex had become a magnet for crime, vandalism and anti-social behaviour before being demolished.
Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston said: “This is what the residents of Tollesby have been waiting for for so long, and I know they won’t be disappointed.
“The derelict eyesore is gone, to be replaced by affordable apartments and other high quality amenities.
“That’s what the community called for, and it will bring benefits to the area for years to come.”
