This April, On The Tools is participating in #KnowThyNuts for Testicular Cancer Awareness month. So, when did you last check out yours?

On The Tools, the online social media construction community, is now the largest online construction based community in the UK, having amassed over two billion views across their channel in the last two years, as well as boasting the third highest Branded Content Publisher in the UK.

Movember, which was created by friends Travis Garone and Luke Slattery in 2003, campaigns to raise awareness on important issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention. Movember, which was conceived over a quiet beer in Melbourne, Australia, was initially inspired by Travis and Luke’s friend’s mother, who was fundraising for breast cancer at the time.

Interestingly, the CEO and Co-founder of On The Tools, Lee Wilcox, shares a similar start-up story with Travis and Luke – having created the idea of On The Tools also over a drink with his friend and Creative Director, Adam Barrie, back in 2014.

According to new research from the Movember Foundation, two-thirds of British men aged 18-34 do not know they are in the age group most at risk of being diagnosed with testicular cancer. Testicular cancer strikes early and is currently the most common cancer in young men in the UK.  On The Tools, who now boast over 3 million followers on Facebook, are the largest online construction based community in the UK with a loyal audience which is comprised of over 90% males, falling into the 18 – 45 year old category – meaning a large majority of their audience fall into the age bracket of those at risk.

With this in mind, On The Tools have set out to raise awareness of testicular cancer and to highlight the importance of ‘checking your nuts’. In typical On The Tools fashion, this will be orchestrated through funny content shared on their social media channels, including two Facebook Lives and a feature on their famous Friday lunchtime ‘Quids In’ show, where the On The Tools team feature different brands, giveaways, leading top tips and ways to save the pennies – but that’s not all.

April’s focus on testicular cancer is a part of a year-long campaign for On The Tools, who will be tackling some important topics including Fatherhood, mental health, before leading up to the main event, Movember, later this year.

Testicular cancer affects young men with around 2,200 cases in the UK every year and together with Movember, On The Tools is urging men to carry out regular self-checks as early diagnosis is key to successful treatment.

Lee Wilcox said: “I’m so excited to kick off On The Tools’ activity for Movember this year, and really proud of the whole On The Tools team for getting involved. It did really shock me to find out how many men – my age, the age of most of our audience – become a victim of testicular cancer and mental health. With On The Tools, we’re in such a position to be able to raise awareness to the ideal target audience – in a way that, l hope, will really resonate with them, and get them to take action in looking after themselves. Something I think, most men, are guilty of pushing aside!”
