NHBC, the leading warranty and insurance provider for new homes in the UK, has this month passed a major milestone, having welcomed more than 5,000 candidates through its NVQ training programmes, 20 years since they were first introduced.
Over recent years NHBC’s NVQ offering has been specially tailored to provide a greater focus on key house-building areas, at Levels 3 to 7, mainly around Construction Site Management.
A construction NVQ is a benchmark qualification that proves occupational competence to employers. Some NVQs, which can also be the equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree, lead to membership of professional organisations such as the Chartered Institute of Builders (CIOB) and the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE).
NHBC’s specialist training team have been working remotely throughout the prolonged lockdown to keep up with assessment submissions and new candidate inductions, and look forward to assessing more candidates, remotely, over the coming year.
Explaining the benefits of attaining an NHBC NVQ, Industry Training Manager, Geoff Mann, said: “We have continued to adapt and evolve our NVQ delivery, never more so since the pandemic began with the introduction of our remote NVQ assessment processes. I am pleased to say that since the first lockdown began last March, we have inducted over 250 candidates.
“Every course is specially tailored to each individual candidate dependent upon their job role and construction specialisms and is delivered by a designated member of our training team who collectively have hundreds of years of industry experience between them.
“Candidates are now able to upload to an online portfolio examples of their work and evidence can be captured on the go, such as images and videos through the app plus – where appropriate – we also try to ensure face-to-face meetings every two months.
“It is a good a time as any to consolidate and further your house-building knowledge and education with many people now having changed working arrangements and in turn enhancing your career potential.”
