Workplace Experts has been appointed for the refurbishment of the 160,000 sq. ft Ark office building in Hammersmith, west London. Acting as principal contractor, BW took possession of the site and commenced construction activities in June this year, after a four-week mobilisation period. The project has an estimated duration of 33 weeks, with practical completion scheduled for March 2023. Gardiner & Theobald LLP is the project manager and employers agent on the project, with Core Five LLP the quantity surveyor.
The Ark building has nine floors in total including ground floor, reception and basement. Levels 1 and 2 will be part occupied for the duration of the works, presenting an additional challenge. The building had already been stripped back to the shell and core with the design and build programme focussing on the cores and providing new WCs throughout.
The unoccupied floors will benefit from a CAT A fit out while new bike storage will be added to the basement and the shower provision will be extended there too. Other new elements include an entrance screen and a redesigned reception space with high-end finishes to brighten. The project also includes reconfigured landscaping to create attractive new pathways surrounded by stone seating, shrubbery and paving, creating an elegant journey to the new entrance and main reception.
