Integrating Living Walls into the Workplace Environment

Integrating Living Walls into the Workplace Environment

‘Integrating nature into the built environment is not just a luxury but above all it is a sound economic investment in the health and wellbeing of people.’

Conscientious employers Newline Insurance, based in the centre of the City hired Scotscape Landscaping Ltd. to install this beautiful living wall in their staff café. This stunning addition to their interior is for good reason – Living walls are really good news for creating healthy interiors.

Environmental and psychological research has repeatedly shown that nature, or views of nature, have positive psychological effects (Kaplan, 1983; Kaplan & Kaplan, 1989; Wohlwill, 1983). Furthermore, views of nature lead to a higher aesthetic evaluation and a greater feeling of well-being than views of non-natural environments (Ulrich, 1979, 1983 Wohlwill, 1976).

Incorporating plants in interiors is proven to reduce stress in staff, creating happier working environments, purified air and ultimately improved employee satisfaction and staff retention.

Installed only 5 weeks ago during the refurbishment of this area, the living wall – also maintained by the experienced Scotscape team – is already full with lush foliage and looking as though it has been in situ for years.

This simple method of planting living walls in situ, which our fabric system allows, enables swift delivery times and an instant fix of stress relieving, fragrant plants.
