Creating liveable cities for the future

Exhibition and Seminars

The Liveable City: 14-17 June 2016 at the Royal Danish Embassy in London

The programme for The Liveable City event is launched today and features seven seminars on how we can create sustainable, healthy and thriving communities.

From 14-17 June, local government, planners, architects, businesses and influencers from the UK and Denmark will meet to discuss and inspire the development of better cities. After successful events in Manchester and Bristol, The Liveable City returns to London with the Royal Danish Embassy’s Arne Jacobsen-designed building providing the venue.

“I am excited to host the Liveable City event at the Danish Embassy, a building which is itself a great example of contemporary Danish architecture. In Denmark, we have developed a range of competences and competitive solutions, which others seek inspiration from, and which are helping to transform the global sustainability agenda and climate efforts into action. It is important we continuously share knowhow and ideas to make our cities sustainable and liveable for everyone. With this event, I am looking forward to seeing the latest of what the two countries have to offer in this area,” said Danish Ambassador to the UK, Claus Grube.

The event is organised by the Royal Danish Embassy in London in partnership with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and is proud to form part of the official program for the London Festival of Architecture.

RIBA chief executive Alan Vallance added:

“The RIBA is delighted to be supporting and participating in this inspiring programme of seminars and debates. Our architect members play a vital role in making cities better places to live, work and play and we are pleased to share the knowledge and expertise of our profession in order to improve the built environment globally.”
This year’s event will include the following seminars:

· Masterplanning and sustainable urban development
· Housing challenge, housing opportunity
· Face of architecture – facades matter
· Cities for a changing climate – preparing our cities for extreme rain and flooding
· Workplace in the community and community in the workplace
· Towards a zero carbon London – heat networks
