The Reclaimed Flooring Company, one of the most well-respected flooring companies in the UK, is pleased to have been part of one of the industry’s most talked about successes over the last year.
The flooring expert, which prides itself on being a purveyor of sustainable living, was the design partner of Joao Botelho, of Casa Botelho, throughout his International Design and Architecture Award nominated project. The ambitious project saw the designer transform a plain London property into a house worthy of featuring in the finest interior design magazines.
The Reclaimed Flooring Company supplied the flooring and wall cladding used in the project, which acts as a glue to tie the whole design together. A wholly sleek and show-stopping transformation, unlike many designs where the flooring simply blends into the décor, the flooring and cladding is a real statement throughout the whole house. It flows effortlessly from room to room in order to bring the lavish theme together.

The four-storey Victorian townhouse had to be completely resigned and structurally altered on the first two floors and in the basement in order for the vision to be created, while the rest of the property was made over to an almost unrecognisable standard.
One of the stand-out features of the property is the stunningly modern staircase that leads up the master bedroom, en-suite and walk-in wardrobe. Made entirely from driftwood sourced from The Reclaimed Flooring Company, it is a one-of-a-kind piece that will last for years to come.
Speaking about the design, Joao, said, “I was obsessed with the mix of old and new and playing with different textures – while also respecting the history of the building. I fell in love with the flooring as soon as I walked in to The Reclaimed Flooring Company and made up my mind almost instantly. The floors are truly magnificent so I decided to create two feature walls using the floor. And I think the results are both impressive and dramatic.”
João Botelho is one of the most prolific designers in the sector, having worked with iconic homeware designers around the world. With a 22-year career in global luxury retail, his CV boasts stints at Harvey Nichols, Donna Karen, Nicole Farhi, and Jasper Conran. Having experienced luxury style at its best, he perfected his craft thanks to his love of exquisite architecture and now explores different personalities via the redesign of a space.
