Presentation about Nottingham’s first custom build community sparks imaginations of homebuyers

More than 50 people attended a special event last night (Thursday 11th May) to hear about the exciting development plans and proposals for Nottingham’s unique custom-build community, the Fruit Market.

Visitors to the event at the Syson Gallery in the Lace Market heard from the Fruit Market’s developer, regeneration specialist Blueprint, and architect Letts Wheeler, who shone a light on the customisation opportunities available to future residents.

During the presentation, Development Manager at Blueprint Alec Hamlin explained how homebuyers at the Fruit Market, located on Bath Street in Sneinton, will be able to shape the interior and exterior of their dream home through a step by step process working closely with the architect. Residents will also be able to collaborate with their neighbours to design shared community spaces and will benefit from energy-efficient homes, private green spaces and cycle storage.

As the first ever group custom build community in the East Midlands, the Fruit Market has already proved extremely popular, with only one plot left for sale in the first phase of the scheme. It will eventually comprise of 40 sustainable and architecturally unique homes.

Alec said he was delighted with the turnout at the event and with the level of interest in Phase Two of the Fruit Market.

He said: “Group custom build is still a relatively new type of residential project in the UK, but is a proven and popular concept in Northern Europe. Guests at last night’s event had the opportunity to learn about this chance to truly shape the spaces and community that they will live in. It really sparked people’s imaginations.

“With all the plots nearly sold in Phase One, we can start working with homebuyers to help them build their dream home and begin our plans for Phase Two. We are at the stage where we can take the project from a conceptual project to reality and we are now considering further benefits for the residents such as community buildings, car share and electric car points.”

The Fruit Market community is just a few minutes’ walk from the city’s cultural hub of Hockley, on the doorstep of Victoria Park – one of Nottingham’s largest green spaces – and is next door to the multi-million pound redeveloped Sneinton market. Prices will range from £220,000 – £350,000.
